Transformational Speaking from Reverend Valorie
Statistics tell us that 75% of the population is affected by the fear public speaking. This can range from mild discomfort to anxiety. As a performer, I was not always at ease with public speaking until I took Toastmasters. I became even more at ease after practicing peer support circles as taught in our recent communications class with the study of Be Heard Now by founder of transformational speaking, Lee Glickstein.
His definition of transformational speaking is when we shift from performance oriented speaking to a connection from person to person. When we focus on connection, we are open to receiving from those we are speaking to who want us to succeed. We can be ourselves. That is all people want is authenticity.
How do you tap into your inner speaker and speak with ease? It is all about connection with people. By practicing with peer support, we heal the wounded speaker of the past, shift into the present by being present.
