A Tender Goodbye

A Tender Goodbye

On Saturday, August 16th, you are invited to celebrate our beloved board member, Michael Matthews.  Michael, a long-time  UCBA member, a past president of the board and a beautiful, gentle soul has left his mark.  He lived with passion and commitment, serving and loving UCBA.

We acknowledge Michael’s wisdom, heart, and clarity that helped shape who we are today.  At Ellie Newbauer’s home years ago, he invited our group to create a vision so action could follow.  Michael was a very thoughtful presence who brought not just wisdom but love to the table.  He asked helpful questions and made insightful comments on what was before the group.  He had the great ability to cut through layers and get down to the important issue.

He also put muscle into this place.  I first met him deep in the leaves among a crowd cleaning up on a big garden workday.  I watched him and Rusty take down the old sign and pitch it in the back of a truck.  He attended a couple of SpiritGroups bringing his wonderful sense of humor and spirituality.

After receiving a cancer diagnosis, I saw him repeatedly choose life and stay focused on beating the odds.  I know he treasured the joyous times spent with loved ones before the symptoms and then living with Molly, Chris and Jocelyn during his treatments.

The beautiful being we called Michael will be greatly missed.  We will continue to live and express unconditional love, acceptance and oneness.  Michael poured his energy, his heart, his mind and his body into expressing our vision and helping us expand it.  We stand on the foundation of Michael and those who lived the power of love so majestically.

Come join us as we give Michael a standing ovation on August 16th at 2 PM.  It is a powerful way to say YES, you made a difference to us and to our world.  We are grateful.

With great love,
Rev. Patty
