After listening to moving stories from 9-11, I long for us to remember and live from the space that we are all connected. Immediately after the tragedy we lived in kindness, compassion and connection, supporting and holding onto one another. Then we forgot.
This paragraph in Spiritual Passages speaks the truth so clearly.
“The deepest spiritual truth revealed in those terrible days was our Oneness. Beneath nationality, religion, politics, race, and all the labels by which we separate ourselves, there is one Life moving through us all. On September 11, we witnessed unimaginable destruction. In the days that followed, we witnessed pure Spirit - human and divine - reaching instinctively toward unity: strangers helping strangers, people praying together, nations standing beside one another. For a time, the boundaries softened and our shared divine nature showed itself. That Oneness did not disappear when the flags came down and ordinary life resumed. It remains the spiritual reality beneath our differences. Perhaps one sacred way to honor those who died is to remember what we discovered in our grief: we belong to one another.”
May we awaken and live as brothers and sisters not because we are going through a disaster, but because we lean into the truth taught by every spiritual master. May we look through our spiritual eyes and behold the love in which we all live and move and have our being. Let us remember that there is One presence and One power expressing in each life. I am grateful that Unity has this message. Let us light the world with our love.
