A Deep Listening

A Deep Listening

One of the deep joys in life is being heard, having someone bear witness to the thoughts and emotions that we are experiencing. It could be joy or anger, celebration or a broken heart, frustration, or fulfilment. I am thinking more deeply about how I am present to that which is happening within me. How can I honor the messages of my body rather than react to them? Can I choose to see them as feedback instead of words from the enemy?

I spoke on Sunday about ways that Myrtle demonstrated deep, loving communication with her body and its presenting symptoms. I invite us to welcome the messages that we receive. Every time we slow down and become present to ‘dis-ease,’ we can send it love and ask what is needed? We may need to slow down, to hydrate, to express our emotions or do some forgiveness work. We may need to get an x-ray or stop resisting a change and look for a blessing instead. There is divine wisdom available within. Our bodies have an amazing built-in healing system. Sometimes the system is saying, “HELP! HELP! PAY ATTENTION HERE!” Can we stop and be present in a loving stance like we would to a child running over to us with an injury?

For many, it can be easier to show kindness and gentleness to others than to extend that same care to ourselves. It may be time to break that pattern. When we practice self-care, we are giving ourselves the chance to be the best that we can be.

May we practice the fine art of listening to our bodies and our divine wisdom as we bear the light of Christ in the world.
